 | As a general rule test results (pathology and radiology) will not be given out over the telephone. This is because it may breach confidentiality and often the results need more explaining, however your treating doctor may leave simple instructions for you with our receptionist staff. Example -You may need to make a follow-up appointment or that a recall / reminder has be set for your next check-up in 12 months time.
If you want full details of test results please make an appointment to see the doctor, this consult should not take long if you have no other queries or problems on the day. |
 |
| |
 |
 | We ask you to minimize calls to the doctor. If the doctor is busy a message will be taken and your call will be returned as soon as practicable, this may not be until after 6.30pm or the next day if not urgent. Please inform the receptionist if you have an urgent problem.

 | Welcome to Crows Nest Medical Practice!
You have chosen to have your Diving Medical Examination conducted here. This examination is required prior to attending the Diving Course for training for the Recreational Open Water Certificate. Please note that we do not conduct diving medical examinations for Commercial Divers.
The purpose of the examination is to identify any reasons why one should not dive or one should take extra precautions when diving. This thorough examination takes approximately 45-60 minutes and you will be asked to do each of the following:
- Complete a questionnaire - if you do not already have this questionnaire, please arrive about 15 minutes before your appointment so that you can complete it prior to seeing the doctor.
- Provide a urine sample - please avoid passing urine for at least 1 hour prior to arriving to the surgery. Upon arrival, collect a mid-stream urine sample (pass a medium amount of urine into the toilet bowl and then collect the sample) into the yellow topped sterile container (provided within the toilet). A minimum of half a container of urine would be adequate.
- Perform a lung function test - this test is to identify if there are any problems with airflow that may not necessarily be detected by listening to your lungs or even noted by you.
- Sit through an audiogram –this hearing test helps to identify any hearing problems prior to diving.
During the examination the doctor may identify problems that would require further investigation such as blood tests or even X-rays or scans. You may even be referred to a specialist for an opinion.
In the unlikely event that a problem is identified requiring additional investigation, an additional charge will be incurred. For instance, if an electrocardiogram (EGC) has to be performed to assess the electrical activity of the heart, then an additional charge, in the order of $30, will be added. The pathology laboratory that does the blood tests or radiology department that does the X-ray or scans will also be additional charges, the costs of which will depend on the nature of the tests conducted.
Keep in mind that most of the time, no further tests are required.
Persons under the age of 14 are unable to complete a diving medical.
Cancellation Policy - Finally, please let us know at least 24 hours before the appointment if you are unable to make it to the appointment.
Happy Diving and we hope to see you shortly!
